The origins of Root Delight were seeded right here on the farm. I’m calling it C. Forest Farms for right now. It is owned by Claude Forest, Jr. who is a plant & soil specialist. It was once an established nursery with a 100 year old olive grove and now Claude is working hard restoring and building toward creating a vibrant farm that can be shared with others. It’s been nearly a decade since the 2017 La Porte Fire (Wind Complex) swept through the property and he is finally having fun experimenting and growing his gardens again.
But it is not just about the gardens! There are the horses, dogs, kitties, and a growing flock of ducks, guinea hens, and chickens along with hundreds of native (and a few non-native) birds that call the 24 acre property home. Oh and the occasional visiting cows. Button and Diego are giving chase below. The area pictured below will soon be a 1 acre plot that we are able to irrigate with water from the agricultural ditch next to it. I can’t wait to see what we plant here!
